When I was three and my sister was born, I was thrilled when my parents bestowed upon her the moniker Adria, which means "a girl with black hair and blue eyes." When I was four and her hair had faded to light yellow and her eyes had changed to green, I was ready to take her back to the hospital to exchange her for a baby who fit the name. Now that I'm older and I've accepted having a sister who no longer fits her name, I've turned my dismay to a particular channel whose name should be changed -- or whose programming should be changed to fit the name -- The (so-called) Learning Channel, or TLC.Perhaps people are learning something from TLC, but are they learning anything worthwhile?Touch up your makeup, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh looking. We don't visit any hot tubs, strip clubs or S&M lounges. But does it belong on The Learning After "A Dating Story" it only seems logical that we should have "A Wedding Story" -- in which we "learn" how the couple met, how the bride picked out her wedding dress, her flower arrangements, her cake.We even get a glimpse of the "bachelor" and "bachelorette" parties -- although these, like the dates, get "cleaned up" for The Learning Channel.Ostensibly the producers would set up a couple and film their blind date while adding lascivious commentary.

It features Snoop Dogg, a song sampling Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September,” producer Ron Fair and help from T-Boz’s brother, songwriter-producer Carnoy “Ayo Kayo” Watkins. That doesn’t mean we won’t do a residency in Vegas,” T-Boz said.“We have a body of work and when you (have) timeless songs like ‘Waterfalls’ and ‘No Scrubs’ and ‘Unpretty,’ you should be able to (tour), you know. In an interview with the Associated Press, TLC talked about their music, dating while in a girl group, Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran and the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.A Dating Story was created to complement the shows A Baby Story, A Wedding Story, and A Makeover Story on The Learning Channel (TLC) and Discovery Channel. It was spelled out so clearly for us: "A scrub is a guy that thinks he's fly and is also known as a busta / Always talkin' about what he wants and just sits on his broke a--" With those iconic lyrics and video that was constructed of pleather and pure '90s realness, TLC introduced an entire generation of girls to a type of dude that would have some bearing on their dating lives in one way or another -- The Scrub.
